Federal data is complete from 1998-2017. State and local data is complete from 1998-2011. In the tables and charts below, acres are allocated to each program proportionate to the size of the contributions to each acquisition. For example, if an acquisition had two contributions, and each program contributed equal dollar amounts, each program receives 50% of the acres. South Dakota Game Fish and Parks – Wildlife Division: The Wildlife Division funds land acquisition through the sale of hunting and fishing licenses.
South Dakota Game Fish and Parks – Parks Division: The Parks Division occasionally acquires land through the sale of park entrance licenses and camping permits.
Local Financing Enabled
Though not often utilized, counties or municipalities in South Dakota have the authority to pass bonds, sales taxes or property taxes for the purposes of funding land conservation. A 60 percent majority vote is necessary to pass a bond.
