Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism: The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (formerly Department of Wildlife and Parks) uses three funds to acquire land. The Wildlife Fee Fund (est. 1927) and Wildlife Conservation Fund (est. 1989) receive revenues from sales of lifetime hunting, fishing, and fur harvester licenses and from Migratory Waterfowl Habitat Stamp (est. 1987). The Parks Fee Fund (est. 1955) receives revenue from permit fees, tolls, and other charges from the use of state parks. These three funds support land acquisition, wildlife protection and management, and habitat preservation.

Counties and municipalities in Kansas have the uniform authority to levy a sales tax or general obligation bonds, through approval by a simple majority of voters. These funds may be used for acquisition of parks and open space. Since 1998, 4 conservation ballot measures have passed in Kansas generating $32.55 million in conservation funds, all within Johnson County.
